Custom Fabrication of a Steel Fan Housing Unit for the Power Generation Industry

Custom Fabrication of a Steel Fan Housing UnitA customer in the power generation industry needed a fabricator that could handle the large scale metal fabrication of this fan housing. We fabricated eight of these housings, which measured 32′ in height and width, 30′ in length, and weighed in at 140,000 lbs. each.

The housings were constructed of A-36 carbon steel, which varied in thickness from .500″ to .750″. Each unit was built to the customer’s specifications, fabrication required cutting of the flat plate to the correct dimensions, rolling and forming of all the components to tolerances of ±1/8″. The components were assembled and welded using flux core arc welding, and inspected for dimensional accuracy and for weld quality. The finished assembled fan housing was then painted with a red oxide shop primer. Due to the size of the unit after assembly, each housing unit was broken down to allow for shipping to the customers South Carolina power plant.
