The city of Boston needed 28 of these Fixed Venturi’s fabricated as part of a ventilation system within a tunnel. The customer supplied detailed drawings which called for compliance with AWS D1.1 welding code. Each venturi was constructed from A-36 carbon steel; the flat plate was cut using our CNC burning capabilities, which allows us to maximize material use. The cut components where then formed and inspected for dimensional accuracy. A mounting rim was fabricated to align all of the components for assembly, which were then FCAW welded, and again inspected to verify the required AWS D1.1 compliance. After fabrication the venturi’s had a durable zinc based epoxy/urethane paint applied. Each finished unit measured 6′ in diameter, with material thickness of 3/16″.
